The Beaches of the Silver Coast There are some beautiful beaches on the Silver Coast or Costa de Prata. They range from quiet still lagoons that provide safe bathing to the more lively waves of the Atlantic Ocean that are home to the surfers of Portugal. From our holiday villa in A dos Negros if you travel past Obidos to the A8 you will find Peniche sign posted. This is a large stretch of wilder coast which is very popular with surfers. In Peniche there are surfing, kite boarding & windsurfing schools. Further south towards Lisbon you will come to Torres Vedras & the beach of Santa Cruz which is a lovely area. Going from A dos Negros to Caldas da Rainha then out of Caldas da Rainha on the coast road northwards, you should come to Foz do Arelho which is where you can drive down the Promenade & park up to walk along the beach by the Obidos lagoon or sit in a café/bar watching the kite boarders. Very popular with the locals on a Sunday. This beach has a lovely large lagoon which is very good for families. |

Further north along the coast road from Foz do Arelho is Sao Martinho, this is a very popular beach . It has a shell like cove with safe bathing for children. Very popular in summer, parking is available right on the front. Nazare is the next resort/beach after Sao Martinho & has a lovely stretch of beach where you can walk on the front promenade. You can go up a Funicular railway to the top of Nazare, which is called Citio. Going out of Nazare & Citio north you come to the Norpark water park off a turning on the left about ½ a mile out of Citio. This is a family based water park with pools, slides & Jacuzzi’s for all the family. Continue north on this road another mile from Citio & you come to Legua which is a lovely beach which is quiet. You can drive almost down to it & park & there is a little beach cafe. Whenever we have been, summer or winter, it has been almost empty. It is a stunning stretch of coastline with sparkling waves. |
